Founder and Lead
Google Open Research
Meredith Whittaker is the founder of Google's Open Research group, which is dedicated to solving hard collective problems in collaboration with the academic and public interest communities.
Her work focuses on open Internet measurement and research, usable privacy and security, shared "critical infrastructure" and how to keep it healthy, and the tricky intersections of ethics and networked systems research.
In this capacity she founded Measurement Lab, an open research collaborative that currently hosts the world's largest public domain Internet measurement dataset, and Simply Secure, a nonprofit that brings Design and Human Centered Research to security and privacy engineering. She learned most of what she does by doing it.
